Always start with an excellent quality sound or sample. It’s much harder to “fix” a sound after, than choosing a quality source from the beginning.
Always place in the centre of panorama your bass and your kick.
Don’t put anything on your master bus, watch out for clipping on every channel and always make sure that the highest output level of your final mix does not exceed -3 dB
Disable background applications. Make your computer run faster so that your sequencer or DAW will work more efficiently.
For the DIY musician and producer, networking is a requirement, so is presence in social media. Set up a modest page, provide easy access to your work and try to start a dialogue with likeminded people
